Some Tips for Contest Operators Using Yaesu FT -2000 or FT- 950 with N1MM Logger

During contests, operators using the FT-2000 or FT-950 sometimes struggle to locate small buttons on the radio, such as ATT, IPO, RX, or R.FLT. However, combining N1MM Logger with CAT Control Commands can help solve this issue. In the Band Map window, there is a toolbar at the top that gives mouse-click access to these functions.

These mouse-accessible buttons can be enhanced to effectively replace physical controls on the radio, allowing for quicker activation of certain functions—for example, switching to the RX (receive) antenna. By right-clicking the mouse, you can assign additional functions to these buttons.

In my case, I added several custom buttons, such as switching the RX antenna on, enabling attenuators, activating the 3 kHz or 6 kHz roofing filters, and turning on the preamplifiers (AMP1 or AMP2).

The button functions are programmed using CAT control commands, as described in the FT-2000 CAT Operation Reference Book. In my case, this is illustrated in the image below.

I also programmed the RX input activation command into N1MM Logger + - Function Key File for easier operation during contests. Now I can trigger the command using the F11 key on the keyboard, which isn’t used for anything else in the program.

Using the command RX2 ON, I enable simultaneous reception on RX2 along with RX1. The RX2 OFF command disables this function. Both AF and RF gain levels are set accordingly.( Valid only for FT 2000)

For other commands, refer to the FT-2000 CAT Operation Reference Book and the N1MM Logger manual, specifically the section Help – The Bandmap Window – Key Features.
